Richard Barnes

After serving 24 years as a teacher, counselor, and senior level administrator
in Virginia public schools, Mr. Barnes served from 1997 to 2001 as director of
development at Pendle Hill, a Quaker Center for Study and Contemplation, in
Wallingford, Pennsylvania. His primary responsibilities at Pendle Hill focused on
the successful planning and implementation of a $7.0 million capital
campaign.

Returning to his home in Bath County Virginia in 2001, Richard continued to work part-time for Pendle Hill in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major gifts. Two years later he left Pendle Hill to work with H. Freeman Associates with various clients including Friends House Retirement Community in Sandy Spring, Maryland and a building campaign for Richmond Friends Meeting in Richmond, Virginia. Richard’s areas of speciality center around feasibility studies and solicitation training.

A seasoned and active member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), Richard’s educational credentials include a B.A. from the College of William and Mary, a M.Ed. from the University of Rochester, and extensive graduate work at the Boston University Graduate School of Religion.
